Key takeaways

This article in a few bites

Your own ordering page costs from EUR 29 per month plus service fees from 1% on pickup and from 3% on delivery, with no platform commission.

The customer data from direct orders is yours. When a guest orders through a platform, that data stays with the platform.

You keep the delivery platform alongside it: it brings in new guests, while your regulars order through your own channel.

Your own ordering page costs from €29 per month, and the orders that come in through it carry no platform commission. A delivery platform keeps up to 30% of an order it delivers. When the delivery runs through SOUS instead, the service fee starts at 3%.

If you already sell through Uber Eats, you can keep it running and let the guests who know you order from you directly.

What counts as your own ordering page?

It is an ordering page that belongs to your restaurant and not to Uber Eats or any other delivery platform. Guests order directly from you: they pick a dish, pay online and you receive the order in your kitchen.

Three things set it apart from a platform. You keep the customer data, so every order goes into your own customer list instead of staying with the platform. You set your own menu, prices and opening hours. And there is no platform commission on the order.

There are two forms. You can place an ordering widget on your existing website so guests order without leaving the page. Or you use a standalone ordering page that you share through your socials, your Google profile or a QR code in the venue. With SOUS Commerce you get an ordering page you can link to from anywhere, even if your venue only has an Instagram account and a Google listing.

You do not need a website of your own.

What does your own ordering page cost?

You pay for three things: a fixed monthly fee, service fees per order and the transaction costs of each payment.

With Starter you have a full ordering page with payments, a menu you manage yourself and insight into your orders.

Launch adds SOUS Spotlight, which keeps your listings on 30+ platforms and search engines up to date automatically, so guests find you on Google, Maps and in AI assistants like ChatGPT. Launch is the most popular SOUS plan: visibility and ordering in one subscription.

Service fees per order

SOUS charges service fees, not platform commission. On a pickup order that is from 1% of the order value, and on an order delivered through the SOUS system from 3%.

Compare that with what a platform charges. In the Netherlands, Uber Eats takes 30% when it handles delivery and 14% when the guest picks up. On a pickup order of €35 that is €4.90 to Uber Eats. The same order through your own ordering page with SOUS Commerce costs €0.35 in service fees.

Payment costs

You pay these on every online order, whichever system you use. A payment with a local card costs 2.2% plus €0.25 per transaction.

Worked example

Say you get 200 pickup orders a month with an average order value of €35.

Via Uber Eats (14%)

Via your own ordering page (from 1%)

Commission or service fees per month

Difference per month

€910

Over a year, that €910 a month adds up to €10,920. Delivered orders are not in that sum yet, and there the gap between 30% platform commission and 3% service fees is bigger still. Even after the €29 monthly subscription, you are ahead from the first month.

What do you get besides the money?

Your customer data is yours

On a platform you do not know who placed the order. On your own ordering page you build a customer list you can actually use. A guest who ordered the same dish three times can get an offer when you put a new one on the menu, and your regulars can get a reason to come back on a quiet weekday.

You decide what you charge

With no platform commission on direct orders, you can charge less on your own channel than on the platform and still keep more per order. That margin also lets you decide who pays for delivery: you absorb it, you split it with the guest, or the guest pays it in full at checkout.

You keep the platform alongside it

You do not have to choose between the two. The platform keeps bringing in new guests, while guests who already know you order through your own channel without platform commission.

How do you start?

You do not need technical knowledge and you do not have to wait for a web agency.

  1. Go to the Store Scan and type in your restaurant name. The scan pulls your menu and builds an ordering page from it.

  2. Check your menu and adjust your prices. On your own channel there is no platform commission, so do not copy your platform prices one for one.

  3. Choose how you handle delivery. If you only do pickup you are done. If you want to deliver, SOUS connects you with delivery partners.

  4. Share your ordering page. Through your Google profile, Instagram, a QR code at the till or a link on your own website.

The first two months on the Starter annual plan are free.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a website of my own?
No. SOUS Commerce works with your existing website, or as a standalone ordering page you share through your own channels.

Can I adjust my menu myself?
Yes. You manage products, prices, opening hours and availability yourself.

Can I keep the delivery platform alongside it?
Yes. The platform keeps bringing in new guests. Orders that come through your own page carry no platform commission.

What about delivery?
For pickup you do not need to arrange anything extra. If you want to deliver without your own couriers, SOUS connects you with delivery partners.

Does anything change for my kitchen?
Orders come in the way you already receive them. What changes is that you decide when you take orders and how many your kitchen can handle per time slot.

How quickly am I live?
Type your restaurant name into the Store Scan and you see an ordering page of your own with your menu in it straight away.
